1:1 “James” It is the Greek form of the common Hebrew name, Jacob. He was known by both Jews and Christians in Jerusalem as “James the Just.” He became the respected leader of the Jerusalem Church (cf. Acts 15). Some traditional evidence indicates that this was because of his genealogical relationship to Jesus. This seems to have been a pattern in this church for several generations.
